Mat Franco, the friendliest magic on the Strip

He has his own theater with his name on it in the middle of the Strip, an all-ages rating, and the strongest traveler score of any magic show I track in this city. If you only see one magician in Las Vegas, this is my default answer.

Allages — Caesars lists the show’s age policy as all ages, which is rare for Strip magic

I send more visitors to this show than to any other magic act in Las Vegas, and the reason is almost boring: it is the one that consistently makes people happy. Not the flashiest, not the darkest, not the one with the biggest pyrotechnics budget. Just a guy in a theater with his name on the door doing close-up magic and being genuinely likable about it.

The Mat Franco Theater is at The LINQ, which puts you dead center on the Strip — a short walk from the High Roller, the promenade, and about a hundred places to eat afterward. That location matters more than people think when you’re planning a night. For everything else playing right now, I keep the full list of the best shows in Las Vegas updated.

What makes this one different

Four reasons this is usually the magic show I recommend first.

Close-up, not spectacle

Sleight of hand up front

The work happens in his hands and often right in front of somebody from the audience. It’s the opposite of a big-illusion show, and it holds up better the closer you sit.

The ratings back it up

4.78 across 481 reviews

I don’t lean on scores alone, but a 4.78 with that many reviews is unusual. There isn’t a strong contrarian pile of one-stars underneath it the way there is with some Strip magic.

All ages, per Caesars

Works for a mixed group

Caesars lists the age policy for this show as all ages. That makes it one of the easier Strip nights to book when your party spans a couple of generations.

How to get the most out of it

Four things worth doing before you walk in.

1

Sit closer than you normally would

This is a close-up act. On a big-illusion show the back half of the room is fine; here, proximity is most of the value. If you’re choosing between a better seat and a cheaper one, spend on the seat.

2

Be willing to be picked

Audience volunteers are woven through the show. If you want in, be visible and be near the front. If you absolutely don’t, sit off the aisle and toward the middle of a row.

3

Park once and stay in the neighborhood

The LINQ is center Strip. Do dinner on the Promenade, ride the High Roller, see the show, walk home. Building the whole night inside a few hundred yards is the single best move on this stretch.

4

Confirm the calendar at the box office

I don’t publish showtimes or prices here because they change. Check the date at checkout, and don’t book a late dinner reservation tight against the curtain.

There’s a moment in every good close-up show where the whole room leans forward at once. Mat Franco gets that moment four or five times a night, and he does it without a single explosion.

Questions

Before you go

Where does Mat Franco perform?

At the Mat Franco Theater inside The LINQ Hotel + Experience, center Strip. It’s one of the few Las Vegas theaters named for the performer who headlines it.

Is the show appropriate for children?

Caesars lists the age policy for this show as all ages. It’s a reasonable pick for a family group, and I have a broader list of things to do in Las Vegas with kids if you’re planning around kids.

What kind of magic is it?

Close-up work — sleight of hand, card work, and routines built around volunteers from the audience — rather than large-scale stage illusions. That’s the main thing separating it from the bigger production magic shows on the Strip.

How long is the show and what does it cost?

I don’t publish either number here. Runtime and pricing both change, and the official Caesars box office is the only place I’d trust for a specific date.

What if I want a bigger production instead?

Then look at the Cirque du Soleil shows on the Strip, which are built at a completely different scale, or start from my full list of the best shows in Las Vegas and pick by what your group actually wants out of the night.
