One of the most celebrated Thai restaurants in America happens to be a Las Vegas original, and it is my go-to for a birthday dinner with big flavor and zero pretension.
I have lived in Las Vegas since I was five, and Lotus of Siam is one of those rare places that locals and food critics from around the world agree on. It is bold, it is unpretentious, and it never feels like it is trying too hard to impress you, which is exactly why it works so well for a birthday. Whether you are near the Strip or out in Summerlin, there is a Lotus of Siam close enough to make it easy.

The Vibe
A warm, unpretentious room with a famous wine list
Both locations keep the focus on the food rather than the scene. Expect a comfortable, low-key dining room and a wine list that is legendary among Riesling lovers, an unexpected but beloved pairing with the restaurant’s bold Northern Thai cooking.
What to Order
Start with the khao soi
Order the khao soi, a curried noodle soup that is one of the dishes Lotus of Siam is most famous for. From there, the drunken noodles and the nam khao (crispy rice salad) are both local favorites worth sharing around the table on a birthday night.
Before You Go
Two locations, address and hours for each
Flamingo location: 620 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89119. Lunch and dinner service; hours vary by day, so it is worth calling ahead or checking before you go, especially since the dining room can fill up fast.
Red Rock location: 11011 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89135. Monday through Thursday, brunch 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner 5 to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday dinner runs until 11 p.m.; Sunday dinner closes at 10 p.m.
Reservations: Recommended at both locations, especially on weekends.
My tip: Summerlin folks can use the West Charleston (Red Rock) location instead of driving toward the Strip. It is the same menu and the same magic, just closer to home.
