Gilcrease Orchard is one of my favorite reminders that Las Vegas isn’t only casinos and desert. It’s a genuine working farm in the northwest valley, and every fall it turns into this wonderful, dusty, orange-and-gold pumpkin patch that my family has visited more times than I can count. If you want your kids (or yourself) to pick a pumpkin off the vine instead of a store shelf, this is the place.

A real farm in the desert
Gilcrease Orchard is a working you-pick farm on the far northwest edge of the valley, growing everything from apples and peaches to pumpkins and sunflowers depending on the season. It’s a beloved local tradition, with wagon rides, farm animals, and rows and rows of pumpkins waiting to be picked straight off the vine. There’s no shade in the fields, so it has a bright, open, honest-to-goodness farm feel.
Pumpkins, apples, and farm fun
During the fall harvest you can wander the pumpkin patch and cut your own (bring your own shears), take a wagon ride out through the orchard, wind through the corn and straw mazes, and visit the chicken coop and tortoise habitat. Grab apple cider and apple cider donuts on your way out, and check their harvest calendar for weeks when apple picking or sunflower picking is also open, since availability shifts through the season.

Gilcrease’s fall harvest typically runs from late September through the end of October, and it’s really the reason to visit. This is when the pumpkin patch opens, sunflowers may be in bloom, and the farm leans all the way into the season with hayrides and mazes. Because tickets are limited and sell out on popular days, it’s worth checking their site and buying ahead rather than just showing up.
Address, tickets, and what to bring
Gilcrease Orchard is at 7800 N Tenaya Way in the far northwest valley, about 35 to 40 minutes from the Strip. During the fall harvest, entry tickets are required and must be purchased online in advance, with no refunds or rescheduling, and pumpkins are priced by the pound rather than a flat rate; check their current hours, open days, and ticket prices on their site since these change year to year. It’s cash-and-card friendly for extras, service dogs only (no pets), and there’s no shade in the fields, so bring water, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes. A wagon for hauling pumpkins comes in handy too.
