The Best Neighborhoods in Las Vegas, From Someone Who Actually Lives Here
I’ve lived in Las Vegas since I was five and I’ve sold homes here for years, so I get this question constantly: which neighborhood is right for me? There’s no single answer, it depends on whether you want golf out your back door, a gated hillside estate, or a quiet street ten minutes from the Strip. Here are ten I’d point almost anyone toward, depending on what they’re after.
Las Vegas isn’t one neighborhood, it’s dozens of very different ones stitched together across the valley, and picking the wrong one for your lifestyle is one of the most common regrets I hear from people who moved here without local guidance. Someone who wants walkable trails and mountain views is going to be miserable in a neighborhood built around golf and quiet cul-de-sacs, and vice versa.
So instead of ranking these by price or prestige, I picked ten that each do one thing especially well, and I tried to spread them across the west side, Henderson, the north valley, and the southwest so there’s a real option no matter where you’re drawn to. Every community below has its own full page on this site if you want the details.
Ten neighborhoods worth a serious look
In no particular order, these are the ones I point people toward most often, and why.
Summerlin
The community I get asked about more than any other. Summerlin is a sprawling master plan along the western edge of the valley, built around parks, trails, and views of Red Rock Canyon, with its own network of shopping, dining, and medical centers spread across dozens of individual villages.
The Ridges
Summerlin’s highest-end pocket, a guard-gated enclave built into the hillside next to Bear’s Best golf course, known for dramatic modern architecture and sweeping valley views. If you want privacy and a gate, this is usually the first place I mention.
Green Valley Ranch
One of Henderson’s original master plans and still one of the most walkable, anchored by The District’s outdoor shopping and dining. It sits close to the 215 Beltway, which makes both the Strip and Henderson’s own job centers an easy drive.
Lake Las Vegas
Built around a 320-acre man-made lake with a Mediterranean-style village at its center, MonteLago, plus multiple golf courses. It’s the closest thing the valley has to a resort-town feel as a full-time address.
MacDonald Highlands
A guard-gated hillside community built around DragonRidge Country Club, with homesites carved into the McCullough Range that take advantage of the elevation. This is the other name that comes up alongside The Ridges for buyers wanting a gated, view-driven address.
Anthem Country Club
A guard-gated golf community in Henderson’s Anthem area, built around its own private course with foothill views toward the McCullough Range. It’s a favorite for buyers who want golf access without needing to leave the neighborhood.
Southern Highlands
A large guard-gated master plan in the southwest valley built around the private Southern Highlands Golf Club, with quick access to the 215 Beltway and Harry Reid International Airport. It draws a lot of buyers who want gated living close to the south Strip.
Aliante
A master-planned community in North Las Vegas built around its own golf course, with parks, trails, and Aliante Casino’s dining and entertainment close by. It’s one of the more established options if you’re set on the north valley.
Sun City Summerlin
An age-qualified, 55 and older community on Summerlin’s north side, with its own golf courses, recreation centers, and clubs built specifically around an active-adult lifestyle. If you’re looking specifically for a 55+ community on the west side, this is the one I mention first.
Mountain’s Edge
A large master-planned community in the far southwest valley with an extensive trail and park system, including Exploration Peak Park at its center. It’s a good fit if you want newer construction and easy access to open desert on the edge of the valley.
Three questions I always ask first
Before we ever talk about a specific neighborhood, these are the three things that actually determine the right fit.
What does your daily commute look like?
The west side, Henderson, and the north valley each put you closer to different job centers and to the Strip. This alone rules out half the map for most people.
Gated or open?
Guard-gated communities like The Ridges, MacDonald Highlands, and Southern Highlands trade a gate fee for privacy and controlled access. Plenty of buyers are happier in an open master plan like Summerlin or Green Valley Ranch.
What do you want out your back door?
Golf, a lake, hiking trails, or just a quiet street, this is usually the deciding factor once the commute and gate questions are settled.
Looking for a specific fit?
The Ridges, MacDonald Highlands, Anthem Country Club, and Southern Highlands are the four I mention most for buyers who want a gate and a course in the same neighborhood.
Sun City Summerlin on the west side and Sun City Anthem in Henderson are both age-qualified, 55 and older communities with their own recreation centers and clubs. Both have full pages on this site with more detail.
Cadence and Inspirada in Henderson and Skye Canyon in the northwest are all newer master plans if you’re specifically looking for more recently built homes.
Mountain’s Edge and Summerlin both back up to serious trail systems and open desert, good options if hiking and biking are part of your everyday routine.
Southern Highlands and Green Valley Ranch both sit within an easy drive of the Strip and Harry Reid International Airport, useful if you travel often or work near the resort corridor.
More ways to look at this
There’s no such thing as the objectively best neighborhood in Las Vegas, only the best one for how you actually want to live. That’s the conversation I want to have before we ever look at a single listing.
