Homes for Sale in MacDonald Highlands
A guard gated hillside community above Henderson, built around DragonRidge Country Club, with custom homes on elevated lots and long views across the valley.
What MacDonald Highlands Is Actually Like
The short version, then the details.
MacDonald Highlands is a hillside, guard gated community in the foothills above Henderson, defined by its terrain and its golf course.
It was developed by the MacDonald family and built out from around the turn of the 2000s, wrapped around DragonRidge Country Club and its golf course. The land climbs the hills on the southwest edge of Henderson, so the lots step up the terrain and many of them look back over the valley.
I have been in Las Vegas since I was five, and the foothill communities like this one came later in the valley’s story, once builders started working the higher ground. MacDonald Highlands is one of the names people mean when they talk about custom home living up against the hills.
It is a community of custom and semi custom homes rather than production tracts, so streets and homes vary a great deal from one part of the community to the next.
The Amenities
The golf course and the gate are the backbone of the community.
DragonRidge Golf
An 18 hole golf course woven through the community, the feature MacDonald Highlands was planned around, with fairways threading the hillside lots.
The Country Club
DragonRidge Country Club anchors the community with its clubhouse, dining, and member facilities at the center of the plan.
Guard Gated Entry
A staffed gate controls access to the community, part of what buyers looking here are usually after.
Elevated Views
Because the community climbs the foothills, many lots sit high enough to look out over the valley and the Strip in the distance.
The reason a lot of buyers look here: MacDonald Highlands combines the guard gate, the golf, and the hillside setting in one community. For buyers who want a custom home with elevation and a course out the door, that mix is the draw.
The Homes
Custom and semi custom, on hillside lots.
This is a custom home community, so the homes are as varied as the people who built them.
Rather than repeating floor plans, MacDonald Highlands is made up of custom and semi custom homes on individual lots, many of them elevated and view oriented. Some sections offer finished homes while others offer view lots for a custom build, so what you find here changes with the street and the phase.
Because these are individual homes, no two are alike, and the lot and the view matter as much as the house. See what is on the market right now.
Where It Sits
Southwest Henderson foothills, off Valle Verde near Horizon Ridge.
The foothill setting is the tradeoff and the appeal at once. You are up above the valley floor with the views that come with it, and the 215 is close enough to keep the rest of Henderson and the airport within reach.
MacDonald Highlands sits in the southwest Henderson foothills in the 89012 zip code, off Valle Verde near Horizon Ridge Parkway.
How It Compares
Swipe through the communities buyers usually weigh against this one.
Seven Hills
The other hillside guard gated community nearby. Seven Hills is a larger master plan with a mix of homes. MacDonald Highlands is more custom and more focused on its own golf course.
Anthem Country Club
The guard gated golf community up in Anthem. Both are gated and course centered. Anthem Country Club sits higher on Black Mountain, MacDonald Highlands sits closer in.
The Ridges
The custom home community in Summerlin on the far side of the valley. Similar custom, view oriented idea, different side of town. Geography usually settles it.
Ascaya
The custom hillside community carved into the same range. Ascaya is newer and steeper. MacDonald Highlands is more established, with its golf course already grown in.

None of that makes one better. It makes them different, and I am happy to walk you through more than one so you can judge in person rather than from photos.

Understand the lot and the view
On a hillside, the lot is half the story. Elevation, orientation, and what sits below you all shape the view and the privacy, and they change street to street. Walk the specific lot before you decide, not just the house.
Buying a home versus a custom build
Some sections offer finished homes and others offer view lots for a custom build. Those are very different timelines and processes, so be clear which one you are pursuing before you get attached.
The country club is separate
Living in the community and belonging to DragonRidge Country Club are two different things. If club access matters to you, ask about current membership options and terms rather than assuming they come with the address.
Understand the HOA and the gate
There is a master association here, and the guard gated entry is part of what it maintains. Because dues and rules can change, I would pull the current figures for the specific home rather than quote a general number.
Drive the commute honestly
You are up in the foothills, so getting down to the freeway and out to the airport takes a few minutes more than a valley floor address. Drive your actual route at your actual time of day before you commit.
What about schools?
School attendance zones and ratings change, and they can differ by address even inside one community. I would encourage you to verify current zoning and ratings directly with the district for any home you are serious about.

I have lived in Las Vegas since I was five years old. I have watched this valley grow from a small town into what it is now, and I have built my career in real estate here. If you are thinking about a move, I would love to talk it through with you.
