I’ve lived in Las Vegas since I was five, and one thing that never stopped surprising me growing up was how fast this town tears down its own history. A casino that felt permanent when I was a kid could be rubble a few years later, replaced by something newer and shinier. The Neon Museum is the one place in the valley that pushed back on that. It’s a nonprofit that has spent decades rescuing the actual signs off buildings before they hit the dumpster, so the neon that once lit up the Strip and Fremont Street still exists somewhere you can walk right up to it. If you love Vegas history as much as I do, this is one of the most meaningful hours you can spend downtown.

What You’ll Actually See
A Two-Acre Field of Retired Signs
The museum’s collection holds more than 250 signs pulled from over 200 Las Vegas properties, and roughly a hundred of them sit outside in the Boneyard itself, some still wired up and glowing. You’ll walk past the Hacienda Horse and Rider, the neon cowboy that used to spin outside the old Hacienda Hotel, along with pieces that once hung outside the Stardust, the Flamingo, the Golden Nugget, Caesars Palace, and Sassy Sally’s. Every sign has a story about a casino that’s gone but not quite forgotten.
Housed in a Rescued Motel Lobby
Even the building where you check in has a survival story. The visitor center is the lobby of the old La Concha Motel, a swooping 1961 building that was saved from demolition and physically relocated to the museum’s campus on Las Vegas Boulevard North. It now holds ticketing, a gift shop, and a small gallery, and it’s worth a slow look before your tour even starts.
Two Completely Different Experiences
A daytime guided walk lets you see the craftsmanship up close, the rust, the paint, the sheer scale of some of these signs. An evening visit is a different mood entirely, with a handful of the pieces lit up in the dark the way they were meant to be seen. If you want something even more immersive, the North Gallery runs “Brilliant!,” a projection and light show that animates dozens of the vintage signs with music, set apart from the outdoor walking tour.
