On a blistering summer afternoon, a dark, cold theater is honestly one of my favorite places in town. We’re spoiled for choice here, too, from genuine IMAX screens and fully reclining luxury seats to comfortable neighborhood cinemas and a classic drive-in. Here’s my honest rundown of where to go, and a few tips to help you land the best seats.

IMAX and premium big screens
Brenden Theatres Las Vegas 14 & IMAX
This is the one I send people to for a true blockbuster. The Palms is home to one of only a small handful of real IMAX 70mm screens in the entire country, and they’ve added a JB-X auditorium with Dolby Atmos, renovated recliners, and a full bar. If you’re going to splurge on a movie, splurge here. Tip: Check showtimes on the official site and grab tickets early, because the big IMAX releases sell out.
Regal Red Rock & IMAX
A longtime local favorite on the west side with a big IMAX auditorium and easy parking. It’s my go-to when I’m out near Summerlin and want the large-format experience without driving to the Strip. Tip: Pair it with dinner at Downtown Summerlin just up the road for an easy evening out.
AMC Town Square 18
Tucked into the open-air Town Square shopping center, this AMC has an IMAX screen and reserved recliner seating in a fun, walkable setting. It’s one of the closest full-size theaters to the resort corridor. Tip: Make a night of it with dinner and shopping right outside the doors before the show.
Regal Aliante & IMAX
If you live up north, this is your big-screen home base. It has an IMAX auditorium and comfortable seating right by the Aliante casino, so you get the large-format experience without the cross-valley drive. Tip: Reserve seats online; the center rows fill up fast on opening weekends.
Luxury recliners and neighborhood gems
Galaxy Theatres Green Valley
A favorite over in Henderson, with reserved luxury recliners and a full bar so you can bring a drink into the show. It has a grown-up, comfortable feel that makes for a great date night. Tip: Look into their premium and 21+ options on the official site if you want the elevated experience.
Galaxy Theatres Boulevard Mall
A comfortable, modern option right in the middle of town at the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. It’s handy if you’re near the university or central valley and don’t want to drive to the suburbs. Tip: Easy to combine with a mall trip, so it’s a good rainy-day (or triple-digit-summer-day) plan with the kids.
Galaxy Theatres Cannery
The North Las Vegas Galaxy at the Cannery is a solid, easygoing neighborhood theater with plenty of parking and a quick in-and-out. It’s a reliable pick for a casual weeknight showing up north. Tip: Weekday matinees here tend to be nice and quiet.
Catch a movie at the casino
Several of our locals casinos have Cinemark’s Century theaters right on site, which makes for an easy combo of dinner, a movie, and a little people-watching. Showtimes and pricing change often, so check the official site before you head out.
Cinemark Century Orleans 18 & XD
A big 18-screen Century inside The Orleans with an XD large-format auditorium. It’s a longtime local standby that’s close to the Strip but far enough to skip the crowds. Tip: The Orleans has bowling and food courts too, so it’s a great rainy-plan-B for a group.
Cinemark Century Suncoast 16 & XD
Out at the Suncoast near Summerlin, this Century has 16 screens plus XD and a comfortable, well-kept feel. It’s my pick when I’m on the west side and want a full-service casino night around the movie. Tip: Grab a bite at the Suncoast first, then walk right over to your show.
Cinemark Century Santa Fe Station 16 & XD
A dependable 16-screen Century with XD tucked into Santa Fe Station up in the northwest. It’s convenient for the Centennial Hills and northwest neighborhoods. Tip: Combine it with the casino’s bowling alley for an easy family outing.
Cinemark Century South Point 16 & XD
Down south at the South Point, this Century has 16 screens and XD and is a favorite for folks in the southern part of the valley. The South Point is a fun local hub with plenty to do before or after the show. Tip: Parking is easy and free, which is a nice change of pace from the Strip.
Movies under the stars
West Wind Las Vegas Drive-In
For something a little different, our old-school drive-in is a treat. You tune the movie in on your car radio and watch under the desert sky, and there’s a swap meet and public market on the grounds too. It’s the kind of throwback Vegas experience the kids remember. Tip: Bring blankets and camp chairs, get there a bit early for a good spot, and check the official site for the current lineup and prices.
A quick heads-up for anyone using an older list: a few of our theaters have closed over the years, including the AMC Rainbow Promenade 10 on the northwest side, Regal Village Square on West Sahara, Regal Colonnade on Eastern, the Tropicana Cinemas, and the old Showcase theater on the Strip. The spots above are the ones I’d actually send friends and family to today. Always double-check showtimes and pricing on the theater’s official site, since those change all the time.
