The Sphere in Las Vegas: What It Is and How to See It
A 366 foot ball of light next to the Venetian, and one of the strangest, most impressive buildings I have ever stood in front of.
I have lived in Las Vegas since I was five years old, and I have watched this city reinvent its skyline more times than I can count. Nothing prepared me for the Sphere. It is not just another attraction on the Strip, it is a genuinely new kind of building, a giant orb wrapped in the largest LED screen on the planet, sitting right next to the Venetian. You can see it lit up from miles away, and once you are inside, the experience is honestly hard to describe until you feel it. Here is what it actually is, what you get out of a visit, and how to enjoy it even if you never buy a ticket.

What Makes the Sphere Different
The World’s Largest LED Screen
The Sphere’s exterior is covered in roughly 580,000 square feet of LED panels, made up of over a million puck-shaped light fixtures. It is the largest LED screen ever built, and it turns the entire outside of the building into a moving canvas, a giant eyeball, a basketball, a pumpkin for Halloween, whatever the show of the night calls for. There is nothing else like it anywhere in the world.
A Screen That Wraps Around You
Step inside and the interior screen wraps floor to ceiling and all the way around, one of the highest resolution displays ever built. Thousands of the seats have haptic feedback built in, so you feel rumbles and vibrations that match what is happening on screen, and the room can add wind, temperature changes, and even scent depending on the show. It is built to make you forget you are sitting in a chair at all.
Films, Concerts, and One-of-a-Kind Experiences
The Sphere opened in 2023 with U2 kicking off a residency that put the building on the map, and since then it has hosted concert runs from artists like the Eagles, Dead & Company, Phish, Kenny Chesney, and Backstreet Boys, along with the original resident film “Postcard from Earth” from director Darren Aronofsky. These days, “The Wizard of Oz” has its own immersive film experience built for the Sphere’s screen, reimagining the classic movie at a scale you have never seen it before. The lineup changes throughout the year, so check the official Sphere site for what is currently playing before you plan a visit.
You Do Not Need a Ticket to Enjoy It
My favorite thing about the Sphere is that you do not have to spend a dime to be amazed by it. The Exosphere lights up every night and is visible free from the Strip sidewalk, from the High Roller observation wheel, from pedestrian bridges near the Venetian, and from plenty of hotel rooms with a view east. Walk over after dinner, grab a spot near the entrance plaza, and just watch it change. It is one of the best free things to do in Las Vegas, full stop.
