The Smith Center Las Vegas
Downtown’s home for Broadway, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, and intimate jazz — and one of my favorite reasons to leave the Strip behind for a night.
More Things to Do in Vegas →I’ve lived in Las Vegas my whole life, and I still remember how it felt when The Smith Center opened downtown in Symphony Park. For the first time we had a true world-class performing arts campus of our own — not a casino showroom, but a real concert hall built for Broadway, symphony, and dance. If you’re looking for something to do in Las Vegas that shows off the city’s grown-up, cultural side, this is the place I send friends and clients again and again.

How The Smith Center Came to Be
The Smith Center opened on March 10, 2012, after decades of planning to give Las Vegas a permanent home for the arts. A landmark gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation helped make it real, and the campus was named in honor of Fred and Mary Smith. It sits on land the city set aside for Symphony Park, a walkable downtown district just off Grand Central Parkway. Today it operates as a nonprofit, presenting performances year-round and free educational programs for local students.
Art Deco Grandeur & the Carillon Tower
Designed by architect David M. Schwarz and built from Indiana limestone, the building draws its Art Deco style from the Hoover Dam — a nod to the region’s history that makes it feel timeless rather than trendy. At the corner, a 17-story tower holds a 47-bell carillon that gives downtown its own skyline landmark. Every hall was engineered by leading theater and acoustics specialists, so the sightlines and sound are genuinely exceptional.
The Venues Inside The Smith Center
Reynolds Hall
Reynolds Hall is the crown jewel — a roughly 2,050-seat theater with tiered balconies, a grand stage, and a full orchestra pit. This is where the touring Broadway Las Vegas series lands, where the Las Vegas Philharmonic performs, and where you’ll catch headline concerts, dance, and marquee events. If you only have one night, a show in Reynolds Hall is the quintessential Smith Center experience.
Myron’s (formerly Cabaret Jazz)
Myron’s is the intimate side of The Smith Center — a warm, cabaret-style room seating around 240 people, where you can sip a cocktail at a table and feel like the performer is singing just to you. It’s the spot for jazz, cabaret, and singer-songwriter nights, often featuring talent straight from Las Vegas stages and Broadway. Overlooking Symphony Park, it’s my go-to when I want a special, low-key evening out.
Troesh Studio Theater
The Troesh Studio Theater is the campus’s adaptable black-box space, reconfigured to fit each production. It hosts smaller and more experimental performances, children’s theater, film screenings, and private events, with lighting and layout that can change to match the show. It’s a reminder that The Smith Center is about more than its big stage — there’s something here at nearly every scale.
What to See
Programming Year-Round
The calendar stays busy all year. The Broadway Las Vegas series brings the biggest touring productions to Reynolds Hall, the Las Vegas Philharmonic makes its home here, and resident companies and guest artists fill in concerts, comedy, dance, and family shows. Down at Myron’s, the jazz and cabaret lineup rotates constantly. Because shows and dates change often, I always check the official Smith Center calendar for exactly what’s on when you want to go.
Dress Code & the Vibe
There’s no formal dress code — but this is the one place in town where locals genuinely dress up. Most people land somewhere between smart-casual and cocktail attire; opening nights lean dressier. My honest advice: skip the shorts and flip-flops, wear something you feel great in, and pick shoes you can manage on the stairs. You’ll fit right in and enjoy the night more.
