Known for his work with wood, St. Joseph (also known by Spanish-speakers as San Jose, and as San Giuseppe by Italians) is rumored to bring good luck to anyone who wants to sell their home quickly (and for a good price, of course).
It seems that the tradition of burying a plastic St. Joseph to speed up the sale of property became popular in the United States during the mid-1980’s; at that time, many real estate agents were buying these little plastic statues by the case!
Since then, many homeowners have credited the success of their sale to the Saint, and this luck-attracting tradition remains popular among Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

Other stories claim that German carpenters would bury a statue of St. Joseph in the foundation of the buildings they constructed, praying that the saint would protect the structure.
Where to Bury The St. Joseph Statue
The exact location of where the St. Joseph statue should be buried is up for debate – some say that it’s important to place the statue upside-down, about 12″ below the earth between the real estate ‘for sale’ sign and the street, as this will encourage sellers to come onto the property.
Others claim that the statue should be buried in the garden close to the foundation of the building, as this will attract money and buyers to the site.
Condo-dwellers are advised to plant their St. Joseph statue in a flower pot on their balcony or inside their unit rather than burying the statue on the lawn of the building, as this might attract a buyer for a neighboring unit instead of their own!

- If you are in a condo, bury it in a pot of soil.

- When it works, take the statue to your new home and display in reverence.

This prayer was found in the fifteenth year of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle.
Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never die a sudden death, or be drowned, not shall poison take effect of them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy; or shall be burned in any fire, or shall be overpowered in battle.
